Last bivouac my friend and I decided to try something new. We wanted to build a snow cave. We went to a place with a healthy amount of snow and started to build a enormous pile of snow. To get this pile big enough took us 1.5 days! But when we got there, digging out this pile was done amazingly fast and easy! In the video below we like to demonstrate the process and the fun we had in building this snow cave. To demonstrate this process we’re using photos and video fragments. The focus is mainly on the fun we had around building and using this shelter.
Keep in mind that building a snow-shelter is not without danger. I found a very good website which explains the dangers of a snow cave very well. If you would like to build one, please take a look on this site!
When we returned home, we’ve found another very good video on YouTube on how to make a snow cave a lot easier… Life is about learning right? You can find this video (by Ray Mears) here.
